Men's Basketball Falls On Last Second Free Throws

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - Brian Wilson scored 18 points, including the game-winning free throws with eight seconds to play, as Holy Cross ended an 12-game losing streak to Boston College with a 71-70 win over the Eagles on Sunday.
Jave Meade hit a free throw to give the Crusaders (3-1) a 69-68 lead in the final minute of the game that had nine ties and 23 lead changes.
The Eagles' Ryan Sidney missed an inside attempt and Troy Bell missed a 3-point shot with 13 seconds to play. Wilson got the rebound and hit two free throws for a 71-68 lead.
Boston College's Andrew Bryant missed a 3-point field goal, but Craig Smith, who led BC with 18 points and 13 rebounds, converted the offensive rebound with 0.2 of a second remaining for the final score.
There were six ties and 14 lead changes in the first half, but Wilson, who had 14 points in the half, keyed a 9-0 run to give Holy Cross a 35-30 halftime lead.
Meade's 3-pointer extended the lead to 41-35 with 18:25 to play, but the Eagles (1-2) responded behind Smith to take a 42-41 lead with 15:26 left.
Smith's back-to-back layups gave the Eagles a 60-57 lead with 6:11 left.
Holy Cross, which lost starting center Patrick Whearty on fouls, scored five consecutive points to take a 62-60 lead with 4:59 left and never trailed again.
Whearty had 13 points, while Meade and Greg Kinsey added 10 each. Bell finished with 16 and Uka Agbai had 15.
Holy Cross, which last beat BC in 1990, now holds a 57-49 lead in the series that dates to 1906.
