Junior linebacker Josh Ott was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week following his 15-tackle performance against Notre Dame. Ott's 71-yard interception return for what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown was replayed repeatedly on TV networks Saturday night and Sunday morning after the Eagles shocked the fourth-ranked Irish 14-7 at Notre Dame Stadium. Ott's 15 tackles included 10 solo stops. He also recovered a fumble.
"It's a great honor to be named Player of the Week," Ott says. "Notre Dame is a great team and one of our biggest rivals, which makes this extra special. It really was a team effort, so I want to share this honor with my teammates."
Ott's award was the second BIG EAST weekly honor for the Eagles this season, and both awards have gone to the linebacker corps. Fellow junior Brian Flores was named Player of the Week after he registered eight solos, two assists, one TFL and an interception vs. Central Michigan.
