CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's soccer team defeated BIG EAST rival St. John's 3-1, Friday at Newton Campus Soccer Field. The win improved the Eagles' record to 6-5-1 (2-3 BIG EAST), while the Red Storm fell to 6-2-3 (2-2 BIG EAST). The win is Boston College's second BIG EAST victory in a row.
Freshman back Lindsey McArdle scored the game winner on a header of a corner kick by sophomore Rebecca Miller. McArdle, who hangs in the box for every BC corner, sent the ball to the left side of the net for the tally. The goal was McArdle's first of the season.
Boston College opened the scoring 26:40 into the match on senior Katherine Halloran's fifth goal of the season. Freshman Katie McGregor unloaded a shot stopped by St. John's goaltender Tina Fogg, but Halloran was there to collect the rebound and put it in the net for the tally.
Lauren McGrory scored the lone St. John's goal off a pass from Pristina Alford 63:22 into the match to knot the score at one. After McArdle gave the Eagles the lead, sophomore Laina Ceddia gave Boston College breathing room with her team-high sixth goal of the season. Miller was credited with her second assist of the game.
The Eagles out-shot the Red Storm 17-6 in the match.
The team returns to action Sunday, Oct. 6, when they host Syracuse. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the Newton Campus Soccer Field.
