CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The men's soccer team hopes to secure a BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinal home game when it travels to the Villanova Soccer Complex in Villanova, Pa., on Saturday, Nov. 2 to take on the Wildcats at 1 p.m. The Eagles hold a 10-1-1 record all-time versus Villanova and have not lost to the Wildcats since 1993.
Boston College (10-4-0, 6-2-0) is tied with Connecticut for second place in the conference standings. Each team has 18 points.
The Eagles are coming off a 2-1 win over Brown on Wednesday in which sophomore Guy Melamed (Ort Greenberg/Nofit, Israel) scored the gamewinner 5:40 into overtime. Boston College looked like it would wrap things up in regulation, but the Bears' Jeff Larentowicz headed in a goal at 88:37 to send the game into OT. Junior Adam Pfeifer (Newton North/Newton, Mass.) scored at 27:53 off a touch pass in the box from senior Casey Schmidt (Newbury Park/Newbury, Park, Calif.) to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
The rocky season for Villanova (4-11-0, 2-6-0 BE) continued in its last game, Wednesday, Oct. 23, as it got pounded by Notre Dame, 5-0. The Fighting Irish scored all of their goals in a 15:11 span in the first half.
The second-lowest scoring in the BIG EAST, the Wildcats are led on offense by Charlie Rowan, who has eight points (four goals). Chris Edgar is second with seven points (three goals, one assist), while three other players are tied for third with four points. Sharing goalkeeping duties for the Wildcats are Jon Williams and Sean Teesdale, who own a 2.13 and 2.64 goals against average, respectively.
Last October 7, Boston College blanked Villanova, 2-0, at Newton Campus Soccer Field.
