CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The 15th-ranked Boston College field hockey team celebrated its Senior Night for five seniors with a 1-0 shutout win over New Hampshire Wednesday night at Alumni Stadium on the campus of Boston College. With their ninth shutout win of the season, the Eagles improve to 14-4 overall (3-2 in the BIG EAST). The Wildcats fall to 11-7.
Tri-captains Virginia Drozd (Richmond, Va.), Kim French (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Christy Zider (Barre, Vt.), along with classmates Kim Desto (Holden, Mass.) and Maria LoRusso (Norwood, Mass.) were honored prior to taking the field for their final game at Alumni Stadium.
The game's lone goal was scored by sophomore Kerri Kulesza (Spencer, Mass.) just 1:56 into action. It was Kulesza's fourth goal of the season and second game-winning goal of the year. BC goaltender Lauren Hill (Bethesda, Md.) made three saves en route to the victory, including one late in the game. With just nine seconds left in the game, she was given a yellow card for pushing a New Hampshire player. Jillian Savoy (Lexington, Mass.) entered the game and made a save on the ensuing penalty corner to preserve the win.
Boston College will travel to Virginia this weekend, taking on No. 9 James Madison (Sat.) and Radford (Sun.). The Eagles will then head to Syracuse, N.Y. for the BIG EAST Tournament November 8 and 10.
