Kingston, R.I. - The 15th-ranked Boston College field hockey team earned a 2-1 road win over Rhode Island Wednesday afternoon at the URI Field Hockey Complex on the campus of the University of Rhode Island. With the win, the Eagles improve to 9-2 overall (2-0 BIG EAST) while extending their current win streak to four games. The Rams fall to 0-10.
Boston College scored the game's first goal with just under 20 minutes gone. Senior tri-captain Christy Zider (Barre, Vt.) pushed a rebound past the URI goalkeeper for the 1-0 edge. The game stood at 1-0 through intermission.
Just over 20 minutes into the second half, sophomore Kerri Kulesza (Spencer, Mass.) connected on what would stand as the eventual game-winning goal. Kulesza redirected an initial Virginia Drozd (Richmond, Va.) cross pass from the baseline to find the back of the net. After a short umpire meeting, Kulesza was credited with the goal and Drozd with the assist.
Rhode Island made the game interesting with a penalty corner goal with 11 minutes left in regulation. BC goalkeeper Lauren Hill (Bethesda, Md.) made two saves en route to preserving the win.
Boston College will next host Brown Friday night in a 7:00 game at Alumni Stadium.
