Men's Tennis Concludes Play At Minnesota Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Boston College men's tennis team continued its strong play of late Saturday at the Baseline Tennis Center as it split its 12 matches with Michigan State and won five-of-six singles matches against Marquette at the Minnesota Invitational. The Eagles wrapped up the tournament Sunday by getting swept by Wisconsin and winning both singles matches against the Gophers.
All four of Boston College's singles wins against the Spartans came in matches that involved third-set tie-breakers. Senior Damon Vartabedian (Indian Hills/Franklin Lakes, N.J.), juniors Justin Slattery (Central Catholic/Andover, Mass.) and Paul Colahan (St. John's Prep [Danvers]/Beverly, Mass.) and sophomore Derrick Chou (John Miller-Great Neck North/Great Neck, N.Y.) all pulled out three-set victories.
Chou teamed with sophomore Chris McCoy (Central Catholic/Pittsburgh, Pa.) to win in doubles against Michigan State. The pair of Vartabedian and junior Ross Pytko (St. John's Prep [Shrewsbury]/Oxford, Mass.) triumphed as well.
Slattery, McCoy, Pytko and Chou all won their singles matches against the Golden Eagles, as did junior Brad Anderson (Edina/Edina, Minn.).
Boston College lost all four singles matches and the lone doubles match to the Badgers on Sunday. Colahan and Chou picked up wins in the Eagles' only two matches with Minnesota. Those two led the way for the Eagles over the weekend, going a combined 9-1 in singles matches.
Selected members of the team will play in the OMNI HOTELS East Regional Championships Oct. 25-29 in Princeton, N.J.
