Worcester, Mass. - The 14th-ranked Boston College field hockey team got back on the winning track Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 non-conference victory over area rival Holy Cross at the Hart Center Turf on the campus of the College of the Holy Cross. With the win, the Eagles improve to 11-3 overall. The Crusaders fall to 5-7, snapping their two-game win streak.
Boston College got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead behind Sabrina Lazzari's (Weston, Mass.) unassisted goal at the 23:50 mark. The host school would not go down easy, tying the game at the 30:23 mark of the second half.
Thanks to two defensive saves by the Holy Cross defensive line, the game remained knotted at 1-1 well into the second half. At the 61:48 mark, junior midfielder Virginia Drozd (Richmond, Va.) capitalized on one of BC's five penalty corners on the afternoon. She was assisted on the play by Kerri Doherty (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Bronwen Kelly (Mississauga, Ontario).
BC goalkeeper Lauren Hill (Bethesda, Md.) made just two saves en route to her complete-game victory.
Boston College will next return to BIG EAST action, hosting Villanova Sunday, October 20 in a 1:00 contest at Alumni Stadium.
