Field Hockey Drops 1-0 Decision To Villanova

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The 17th-ranked Boston College field hockey team dropped a crucial BIG EAST game Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium on the campus of Boston College. With the crucial 1-0 loss to Villanova, the Eagles fall to 11-4 overall and 2-2 in the BIG EAST. The Wildcats improve to 8-8 and 3-1 in BIG EAST play. With this game, Villanova is currently in second place in the BIG EAST with Boston College falling to third.
After a scoreless first half, Villanova's Christina Lugones found the back of the net at the 63:20 mark. Taking the third of three shots in a flurry at the net, Lugones found the back board for the eventual game-winning goal.
Villanova goalkeeper Meghan Helwig made several nice saves to preserve the win. Six of her nine total saves came in the second half of play.
BC goalkeeper Lauren Hill (Bethesda, Md.) made just five saves on the afternoon, including five in the second stanza. Sophomore back Kerri Doherty (Lynnfield, Mass.) played well on the afternoon and collected a defensive save.
Boston College will next host cross-town rival Harvard Wednesday, October 23 in a 7:00 contest at Alumni Stadium.
