CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.- The Boston College women's ice hockey defeated Bowdoin College, 4-1, on Tuesday evening at Kelley Rink. Senior assistant captain Kelly McManus scored a goal and added an assist and sophomore forward Alaina Clark registered two assists for the Eagles. With the win, BC improves to 5-14-3 on the season, while Bowdoin drops to 15-2-0.
The Eagles controlled the play early on, jumping out to a 5-0 shot advantage only minutes in. McManus would net the first BC tally at the 2:25 mark, picking up a pass from Clark and firing it under the arm of Polar Bear goaltender Emily McKissock. Clark and freshman Sarah Carlson registered assists on McManus' 10th goal of the season. The Eagles would double their lead with less than a minute remaining in the first frame, when junior Thia Connolly took a feed from McManus and fired the puck over McKissock's shoulder. McManus and Clark collected assists on Connolly's sixth goal of the season.
The Polar Bears would pull one back less than three minutes into the second period with the Eagles on the power play, when junior Shelly Chessie stole a BC pass, skated in alone on net, and fired a shot past goaltender Lisa Davis.
BC, however, would not back down and would take command of the game in the third period with goals from junior Renee Taylor and an empty net goal from sophomore Kaitlin McGrath.
For the game, Bowdoin outshot BC 28-23. Davis made 27 saves for the Eagles and McKissock made 19 for the Polar Bears.
The game marked the first time this season that the Eagles have scored more than three goals in one game.
BC will return to the ice on Friday, February 1 against Quinnipiac University at Kelley Rink. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
