Chestnut Hill, MA- The Boston College volleyball team confidently defeated Loyola College 3-0 today, in the second game of the New England Challenge. With the win, the Eagles improve to 4-2 on the season while the Greyhounds fall to 0-5. Senior Brooke Shull led the Eagles with a match-high 10 kills.
Coming off a terrific straight game win over Lafayette College the previous evening, a match in which every Eagle participated, a rested BC squad jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in game one. Brewing with confidence, Coach Hadel's team looked the fresher of the two sides from the start. Freshman setter Jessica Brizzolara led the assault with a match-high 38 assists. BC took game one 30-17.
Loyola fought back in the second game, jumping out to an early lead. But the Eagles remained cool, winning 5 straight points to take back control of the game. Sophomore Heather Seo again led the BC defense, registering 13 digs, while also contributing 4 kills on offense. The Eagles and Greyhounds went back and forth, but the BC depth and confidence would be the difference as the game went their way by the score of 30-26.
The Greyhounds did not go down easily and jumped out to an early 5-2 lead in game three. BC kept up the pressure and would slowly creep back into the game, finally tying it at 11. From there the two teams would trade points back and forth. The Eagles would finally break the deadlock, pulling away for a 30-25 third game win.
Boston College next takes the court on Saturday, September 8 at Power Gym in the final game of the New England Challenge. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
