Chestnut Hill, MA- The Boston College volleyball team defeated a tough Colgate team 3-1, Saturday evening. The win, BC's third in a row, moves the Eagles to 5-2 on the season, while Colgate falls to 1-6. Senior Brooke Shull led the Eagles with a match-high 19 kills.
BC jumped out of the gates early, taking the lead in game one. Smooth serving from Katie Andersen and great assists from freshman Jessica Brizzolara set the tone as the Eagles took game one 30-19. Game two would see much of the same as the Eagles took a commanding lead and never looked back. Junior Rachel Bach contributed 10 kills for the Eagles. BC took game two 30-16.
The Raiders fought back in the third game, jumping out to an early lead. But the Eagles stormed back to tie the game at 14. The two teams battled back and forth in a very entertaining game. Colgate twice faced match point, but both times was able to extinguish the flames. Finally the Raiders took the lead and the game by the score of 33-31.
BC would not let Colgate come back, however. The Eagles continued to put pressure on their opponents, who finally ran out of gas. BC took game four 30-16.
Boston College next takes the court on Friday, September at Power Gym against Northeastern University. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
