Chestnut Hill, MA- The Boston College volleyball team defeated the Leopards of Lafayette College 3-0 Friday night, in the home opener for the Eagles. With the win, BC improves to 3-2 on the season while the Leopards fall to 0-5. Senior Brooke Shull led the Eagles with 9 kills and sophomore Heather Seo contributed a team-high 16 digs. The game was delayed 30 minutes due to the late arrival of the visiting team from Pennsylvania.
BC, looking to rebound from a tough midweek contest against UNH, jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and never looked back. Led by timely hitting and terrific defense, the Eagles cruised to a 30-5 win in game one. Freshman Jessica Brizzolara again led the offense with a team-high 27 assists on the evening.
Game two would prove to be a bit more difficult for BC, as Lafayette jumped out to the early lead. The Eagles serving game would allow them to take control of the match, however. Lauren Schwer won 8 consecutive points on her serve as BC took command of the match and game two by the score of 30-12.
The third game witnessed the Eagles wear down Lafayette. The constant bombardment of serves and attacks would be too much for the Leopards to handle. BC took game three 30-11 and the match in 3 straight sets.
Boston College next takes the court on Saturday, September 8 at Power Gym in a double header. The day kicks off at 1:30 p.m. with the Eagles taking on Loyola College and ends at 7 p.m. with BC versus Colgate University.
