Durham, NH - The Boston College volleyball team dropped a tough match to the University of New Hampshire 3-1, Wednesday evening. The Eagles fall to 2-2 on the season while the Wildcats improve to 2-2. Sophomore Lauren Powers led BC with 15 kills and 8 digs on the evening.
BC came into the evening looking to carry the momentum from a 2nd place finish in the Sea-Sun Opener Invitational in Orono, Maine last weekend, but it was the Wildcats who looked the strongest from the start. Led by co-captain Alyson Coler's match-high 16 kills and Bonnie Wilson's 12 digs, the Wildcats blew out to an early lead in the first game and never looked back. UNH took game one and game two by scores of 30-20 and 30-25 respectively.
The Eagles fought back in the third game. With freshman Jessica Brizzolara quarterbacking the offense (42 assists), Coach Hadel's team came out fighting. Looking to cut the Wildcat lead in half, the Eagles relied on strong defending from junior Lauren Schwer (19 digs) and timely hitting from Powers and junior Rachel Bach. BC took game three 30-25.
The evening, however, would not end happily for BC, as UNH jumped out to the early lead in the fourth and final game. The Wildcats were just too strong on this night, pulling away for a 30-23 win.
Boston College next takes the court on Friday, September 7 at Power Gym against the Leopards of Lafayette College. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
