Toronto, Ontario - Former Eagle women's basketball standout Cal Bouchard (Aurora, Ontario) was recently named to the Canadian Senior Women's team that will compete in the 2001 Confederation of Pan American Basketball Associations (COPABA ) Tournament in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
"I am very excited to see the young athletes ready to step up on the international basketball stage," says head coach Bev Smith. "Our veterans have seen incredible success individually since Sydney as well. I believe we have a great mix of athletes and we should be able to get the job done in Brazil."
Bouchard will be part of the 12-player roster that will vie, via the COPABA qualifying tournament, for a spot in the 2002 World Championships, to be held in China. The top three finishers at the COPABA Tournament in Brazil will earn at spot at the World Championships.
While at Boston College, Bouchard was an All-BIG EAST selection, a Kodak All-District I selection, and the recipient of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. She became Boston College's first women's basketball player ever drafted when she was selected (60th pick) by the WNBA's Detroit Shock in the 2000 draft.
Bouchard finished her career as Boston College's fourth-leading scorer with 1,496 points. On her career, she averaged 14.4 points per game and helped her team to a 26-9 record in 1999-2000. During that season, the Eagles advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
