CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College junior forward Casey Schmidt (Newbury Park, Calif.) earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 3 after leading the Eagles to a 5-1 win over Syracuse in the team's season opener on Friday, Aug. 31. He shared the award with Rutgers' Dustin Sheppard. Schmidt, the 2001 BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, tallied two goals in the game and led all players with seven shots in the Eagles' lone game last week.
The honor is Schmidt's third-career weekly league recognition after earning two player of the week nods during the 2000 season. He was later selected as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year by the league's coaches. This season, he has already been honored as a preseason All-American by College Soccer News and as an honorable mention All-American by collegesoccer.com.
Schmidt and the Eagles will next host St. Francis (N.Y.) on Wednesday, September 5 at the Newton Campus Soccer Field. Game time is 3 p.m.
