CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Fans attending Saturday's Boston College vs. Army football game in Alumni Stadium are encouraged to enter the stadium earlier than usual in light of increased security measures and because of a number of pregame activities.
In light of the national tragedy on September 11, there will be increased security for the Boston College vs. Army football game on September 29, 2001, and the remaining home games of the 2001 season at Alumni Stadium.
The purpose of this added security is to ensure the safety of all those who take part in a Boston College home football game.
A number of special activities will take place in Alumni Stadium in honor of the September 11 events.
Pregame ceremonies will see two large United States flags unfurled on the field by Boston College students and firefighters and police officers from the cities of Boston and Newton. The flags will be presented as BC student Joseph Fanning plays "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes.
A moment of silence will then be held, followed by the playing of the national anthem.
At halftime, the BC marching band will conclude its performance with the playing of "America the Beautiful" and an American flag will be formed in the stands with the use of individual flipcards.
Following the game, both teams will stay on the field as BC offensive lineman John Richardson leads the crowd in the singing of "God Bless America." The United States Military Academy and Boston College alma maters will then be played.
The increased security measures to be taken mean that no backpacks, coolers, umbrellas or large packages will be allowed into Alumni Stadium. In addition, all smaller bags and purses may be subject to inspection before entrance into Alumni Stadium and all patrons may be subject to additional search.
The gates to Alumni Stadium will open at 10:00 a.m (one-half hour earlier than normal) to accommodate the increased security demands. Boston College encourages all ticket holders to enter the stadium early to avoid possible delays. In addition, ticket holders will not be admitted into Alumni Stadium past the first hour of the game and there will be no readmission to the game after a ticket holder leaves the stadium.
