Chestnut Hill, Mass.- The Boston College women's volleyball team defeated the University at Albany 3-0 Wednesday night at Power Gym. With the win, the Eagles improve to 8-3 on the season. The Great Danes dropped to 2-7. Freshman outside hitter Katie Andersen led the Eagles with 9 kills and 11 digs.
BC came into the game trying to recapture the confidence that had led them to a 5 game winning streak earlier in the season. In game one, the Eagles glided to an early 6-2 lead on the back of strong hitting by Andersen and junior captain Rachel Bach. Once again the offense was masterfully led by freshman setter Jessica Brizzolara, who dished out a match-high 28 assists. The Eagles dominated game one taking it by a score of 30-20.
In game two, BC took command of the match. Timely serving from junior Lauren Schwer combined with solid hitting from Bach and freshman Dara Blandino, broke an 4-4 deadlock. BC broke the match open winning 6 straight points to take game two 30-15.
A reworked Eagle lineup took the court for the third game, but BC did not miss a beat. Led by Lauren Schwer's setting and Heather Seo's strong defense, the Eagles were able to push to an 8-4 lead and never looked back. The punctuation was made at match point as Andersen slammed a kill into the middle of the Albany defense. BC took game three 30-17 and the match 3-0.
The Eagles next take the court on Friday, September 28, 2001 against Long Island in the first game of the Wagner Invitational in Staten Island, N.Y.. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
