New Brunswick, N.J.- The Boston College women's volleyball team lost 3-0 (30-25, 30-22, 30-23) at Rutgers University on Sunday in a BIG EAST contest. With the loss, BC drops to 7-3 (1-1 in BIG EAST) and Rutgers improves to 5-3 (2-0 in BIG EAST). Junior Rachel Bach led the Eagles with 10 kills.
Coach Hadel's team came into the match on a season-high 5 game win streak and hoped to capitalize on their momentum. Rutgers, however, would prove to be a formidable opponent and the Scarlet Knights set the tone in game one. Led by freshman Dawn Christjaener's 11 kills, the home team broke open a tightly contested game and pulled away by a score of 30-25.
Game two saw much of the same from the Eagles. Despite 24 assists from freshman setter Jessica Brizzolara, BC could not match the powerful, virtually error-free play from the Scarlet Knights. Lauren Vernarchik paced Rutgers with an incredible 10-kill, 0 error performance. Rutgers took game two 30-22.
The Eagles came out in the third frame looking to get back into the match, but Rutgers would prove to be too much. Pualani Tuyay led the Scarlet Knights charge with a match-high 35 assists and contributed 10 digs. Rutgers took game three 30-23.
The Eagles next take the court on Wednesday, September 26, 2001 against Albany at Power Gym. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
