Chestnut Hill, MA- The Boston College volleyball team defeated Dartmouth College 3-0, Wednesday evening. With the victory, BC's fourth in a row, the Eagles improve to 6-2 on the season and Dartmouth College drops to 2-3. Junior captain Rachel Bach led the Eagles with a match-high 14 kills and 9 digs.
Coach Hadel's squad did not show signs of rust after an 11-day layoff, jumping out to a quick 7-0 lead in game one. Bolstered by a balanced attack, BC overwhelmed the Big Green with constant pressure. Freshman setter Jessica Brizzolara again started the Eagles offense with 36 assists and also contributed to the stingy defense with 6 digs. BC took game one by a comfortable score of 30-14.
The Eagles came out in game two looking to carry their obvious momentum. Led by Bach's hitting and costly Dartmouth errors, BC came back from an early 5-4 hole to take the lead at 6-5. It was a lead they would not relinquish as Senior outside hitter Brooke Shull paced the BC attack with 9 kills and a match-high 14 digs. BC won game two 30-19.
Game three saw Dartmouth jump out to an early 3-0 lead. BC would not let the Big Green back into the match, however, mounting a strong surge and tying the game at 14. Even without making a single substitution through the first two games, Coach Hadel's team looked the fresher of the two and the Eagles used that energy to close out the match. Tied at 20, freshman outside hitter Katie Andersen led BC through the last 10 points on her serve. BC took game three 30-20.
Boston College next takes the court on Friday, September 21, 2001 at Villanova. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
