Miller And Ryan Named To All-BIG EAST Teams

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Two Boston College women's lacrosse player were honored by the BIG EAST today. Junior attack Lauren Miller was named to the all-BIG EAST first team, while senior midfielder Emily Ryan was selected to the all-BIG EAST second team.
Miller, the teams leader in scoring, assists and points, had 49 goals, 30 assists for 79 points this season. Starting every game this season, Miller ranks fourth in points per game (5.2), tenth in goals per game (3.2) and fourth in assists per game (2.0) nationally through games played on April 29. On April 24, Miller earned her only BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring 18 goals and assisting on 11 others in three games.
Co-captain Ryan finished the season second in scoring, assist and points on the team with 34, 13 and 47, respectively. A starter in all by one game this season, Ryan led the nation in draw controls with 3.53 per game through April 29.
Sheehan Stanwick of Georgetown was named Attack Player of the Year, Carrie Soults of Syracuse was named Midfielder of the Year and Georgetown's Caitlin McLean was Defensive Player of the Year. Coach of the Year went to Kim Simons of Georgetown.
Earning the leagues automatic bid to the 16 team NCAA Championship was third ranked Georgetown who went a prefect 6-0 in league play. The 2001 season marked the first season for BIG EAST women's lacrosse and the first year that a BIG EAST team received an automatic bid. No. 11 Syracuse earned an at-large selection to the tournament, announced, May 6.
Boston College, who ended their season with a nail biter 11-10 victory over Monmouth on April 29, used a surge at the end of the season to finish 6-9 overall. In the BIG EAST, the Eagles ended ranked fifth in the six team league with a 1-5 record, with their lone league victory coming over Connecticut.
