Bell To Attend USA Basketball National Team Trials

Guard Troy Bell, who recently completed his sophomore year at Boston College, will attend the USA Basketball Men's National Team Trials in Colorado Springs, Colo. from June 1-3, 2001, according to an announcement by USA Basketball.
Bell (Minneapolis, Minn.) is one of 45 invitees who will participate in the trials. The trials group includes 16 players who recently completed their junior seasons, 18 who concluded their sophomore years, 10 who concluded their freshman seasons, and one who finished his first season at the NJCAA Division I level. Five of the players claimed Player of the Year honors in their respective conferences, while 11 earned All-America accolades.
There are 31 NCAA universities and one NJCAA school represented. Players from 11 NCAA conferences will attend the trials. The ACC leads the way with 10 athletes, while the Big Ten has nine athletes and the BIG EAST has eight athletes.
Joining Bell from the BIG EAST are: Andre Barrett (Seton Hall), Todd Billet (Rutgers/transfer pending), Caron Butler (Connecticut), John Linehan (Providence), Darius Rice (Miami), Preston Shumpert (Syracuse) and Mike Sweetney (Georgetown).
The trials will be used to select the U.S. teams that will compete in the 2001 World University Games (Beijing, China from August 22-September 1) and in the 2001 World Championship for Young Men (Saitama, Japan from August 3-12).
Boston College head coach Al Skinner will serve as assistant coach for Team USA in the World University Games.
The trials will be held in the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
