Women's Golf Takes Second Place At Massachusetts State Championships

AMHERST, Mass. - Boston College's women's golf team competed in the Massachusetts State Championships, held at The Orchards Country Club in Amherst, Massachusetts, on Friday, April 27th, 2001. Thirty-three golfers representing six schools competed at the event.
In team competition, the Eagles took second place honors with a two-day tally of 339. Individually, Boston College was led by freshman Channing Lovejoy. Lovejoy shot a 79 on Friday to tie for second place. Teammate Roxanne Somboonsiri took 7th place with an 85 while Suzanne Carrazza tied for 10th with an 87. Freshman Kerry Whalen tied for 12th with an 88, co-captain Meghan Donoghue tied for 19th with a 93 and sophomore Jennifer Mitchell claimed 21st place with a 95, rounding off the Eagles' performance.
Claiming the Massachusetts State Championship was Harvard University, who shot a one-day total of 334. Third place honors went to Amherst College, who shot a team total of 346. Individually, top honors went to Harvard's Meredith Chimpa. Chimpa shot a 77 on the day. Tying for second place with Boston College's own Channing Lovejoy was Mount Holyoke's Erin Leigh Gardner.
Boston College's next scheduled event is the Northeast Golf Championships. This event will take place from Saturday, April 28 through Sunday, April 29, 2001, at The Orchards and Oak Ridge Country Club in Amherst, Massachusetts.
