Women's Golf Completes Season At Northeast Championships

AMHERST, Mass. - In their final tournament of the season, Boston College's women's golf team competed at the Northeast Championships from Saturday, April 28th through Sunday, April 29th, 2001. The tournament was held at Hickory Ridge Country Club and The Orchards, both courses in Amherst, Massachusetts. Sixty-eight golfers representing thirteen schools competed this weekend.
Boston College placed 5th of 13 teams with a two-day stroke total of 666 (343-323). Leading the eagles was freshman Channing Lovejoy who tied for 9th with a 164 (83-81). Sophomore Roxanne Somboonsiri placed 13th with a 166 (86-80), while Junior Suzanne Carrazza tied for 16th place with a 168 (90-78). Also representing Boston College was Kerry Whalen, who tied for 21st with a 171 (87-84), and co-captain Meghan Donoghue, who tallied a two-day 175 (87-88) to tie for 26th place.
Tying for first place at the Championships were Central Connecticut State University and Rutgers University. Both team shot two-day totals of 654. Brown University claimed third place with a 662 (332-330). Top individual honors went to Central Connecticut's Colleen McDonnell, who shot a 157 (80-77). Rutgers' Amanda Shriver claimed 2nd place with a 158 (82-76), while Brown's Tara Fiscella took 3rd place with a 159 (82-77).
Boston College's women's golf team has completed their 2000-2001 season and will resume tournament play in the Fall of 2001. Any further updates concerning the women's golf team may be found at www.bceagles.com.
