Men's Golf Kicks Off Spring Season

ISSUE, Md. - The Boston College men's golf team started their 2001 Spring Season by competing in the George Washington Invitational from Sunday, April 01 through Monday, April 02, 2001. The Invitational was held at the Swan Point Yacht and Country Club in Issue, Maryland. Of the 29 schools competing at the event, the Eagles placed 15th with a team tally of 652 strokes (330-322).
Individually, 148 golfers hit the links at the George Washington Invitational. The Eagles were led by freshman Sean McReynolds, whose two-round 158 (81-77) earned him a 28th place finish. Senior captain Mike Rich tied for 36th, just one stroke behind McReynolds with a 159 (79-80). Rounding off the Eagles' performance at the Invitational were Chris Sanossian with a 162 (81-81), Bob Gregory with a 173 (89-84), and Josh Folkerth with a 181 (96-85).
First place team honors went to McNeese State University, who earned their top standing with a two-day total of 616 (305-311). Individually, gold medal honors went to George Washington's Thomas Blankvoort. Blankvoort shot par-golf both days (72), totalling 144 strokes at the close of the final round.
As for the Eagles next scheduled commitment, Boston College will compete in the Yale University Spring Invitational in New Haven, Connecticut. The invitational will be held from April 8th through April, 9, 2001.
