Women's Lacrosse Snaps Two Game Losing Streak Against Denver

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - For the second time in as many games, Lauren Miller scored six goals and assisted on three others as the Boston College women's lacrosse team snapped a two game losing streak, defeating Denver, 16-6, tonight, at Alumni Stadium.
The game began with a slow start, until Miller opened the scoring at 23:25. Assisting on the goal was Emily Ryan. Going more than five minutes with out another goal, Meggie O'Neill scored from a Chrissie DeMichele pass at 18:05. Collecting two goals for the Pioneers, Dominique Cook scored at 17:40 and 15:21, unassisted, to tie the game.
Stepping up the pace, the Eagles went on to score 12 unanswered goals with less than 15 minutes to play in the half. Miller scored five more goals and assisted on three others, for a total of nine points on the day. For Miller this marked the second game in a row that she tallied six goals and three assists. Also scoring for the Eagles, Ryan added three goals and an assist, Rachel Tella netted two goals and had one assist, DeMichele scored two goals and assisted on another, Tara Morley assisted on two goals and O'Neill picked up her only assist of the game. At the intermission, the Eagles led 14-2, their largest lead of the season.
The second half began with both teams playing strong defense. After more than half the half went by without a score, Denver's Noemi Hites netted her first goal of the game, unassisted at 14:43. At 12:40, Boston College's Katie Zorzi scored only her scored goal of her career, unassisted. Reducing the Eagle lead by one, Hites scored from Cook at 9:25. The Eagles final goal of the night came at 6:57 from Lauren Meyers, who scored her first goal of the year, second of her career. The Pioneer went on to score two more goals at 4:16 and 1:18 from Patience Baldwin and Kallie Green. Cook collected her second assist of the night on Green's goal.
In goal for the Eagles, Rachel Zeller stopped 9, preserving Boston College's largest margin of victory of the season. For the Pioneers, Sarah Hazard saved 22 Eagle shots.
With the win the Eagles improve to 4-9 overall and remained and 1-5 in the BIG EAST, while Denver falls to 1-9 overall.
The Boston College women's lacrosse team will next face Stanford, in a non-conference game, on Sunday, April 22, at 12:00 noon at Alumni Stadium.
