** Several Boston College hockey players will be honored at the annual New England Hockey Writers Association banquet in Saugus, Mass. on Wednesday, April 11, 2001. Senior captain Brian Gionta will receive three individual honors -- the Leonard Fowle Award as New England's Most Valuable Player, the Herb Gallagher Award as the region's most outstanding forward, and the Walter Brown Award as the top American-born player in New England. He will share the Walter Brown Award with New Hampshire goaltender Ty Conklin. Senior Mike Lephart and freshman Chuck Kobasew will also receive major individual honors. Lephart will take home the Frank Jones Award as New England's most outstanding defensive forward, and Kobasew will capture the George Carens Award as the region's top rookie. In addition, Gionta, senior Bobby Allen and sophomore Krys Kolanos will be recognized as All-New England selections. Each of the three also captured All-America honors.
** The Boston College-North Dakota title game will re-air on ESPN Classic on Sunday, April 15, 2001 from 7-9 p.m. This airing marks the first time a NCAA Hockey Tournament title game will be shown on ESPN Classic. The station made its decision to rebroadcast the game based on viewer emails.
** Freshman forward Chuck Kobasew, who earned Most Outstanding Player honors at both the 2001 HOCKEY EAST Tournament and the 2001 NCAA Division I Ice Hockey Tournament, will be profiled by WBZ Radio (1030 AM) this weekend. The profile will first air on Saturday, April 14 at 11:55 a.m., then be replayed on Sunday, April 15 at 9:55 a.m.
** For fans who are already anxious for the 2001-02 season to begin, please note the Eagles will open the season on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Vermont.
