SERIES AGAINST SETON HALL: Boston College has a 38-28 all-time record against Seton Hall, including a 3-1 record in BIG EAST Tournament meetings. BC has won each of the last two conference tournament games in overtime (97-87 on March 4, 1998 in Al Skinner's first BIG EAST Tournament game as BC head coach, and 89-87 on March 9, 1995 ... The two teams did not meet during the 2000-01 regular season. Seton Hall has won the last two regular season meetings. BC's last victory was an 81-66 triumph in Conte Forum on Feb. 2, 1999.
ENTERING THE SEMFINALS: Boston College is making its fourth appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament's semifinal round. The Eagles have a 2-1 record in their three previous games. In its most recent semifinal contest, BC defeated Georgetown, 70-58, on March 7, 1997.
QUARTERFINAL-ROUND HIGHLIGHTS: Boston College registered its third-highest single-game point total in yesterday's 93-79 win over Villanova. In its previous 33 BIG EAST Tournament contests, the Eagles had recorded more points in just two contests -- against Seton Hall (97-87 overtime win) on March 4, 1998, and against Syracuse (94-92 win) on March 4, 1982 ... BC shot 51.4 percent from the field against Villanova, marking the 12th time this season the team has shot 50.0 percent or better from the floor.
MARGIN OF VICTORY: BC's 14-point margin of victory in yesterday's win was its second-highest margin in a BIG EAST Tournament contest. Of the Eagles' 13 previous wins, only three had come by more than 10 points. BC defeated Seton Hall by 23 points (79-56) on March 10, 1983, defeated Villanova by 12 (70-58) on March 8, 1997 (title game), and defeated Georgetown by 12 (70-58) on March 7, 1997.
REBOUNDING: Boston College outrebounded Villanova, 39-35, in yesterday's victory. More remarkably, BC grabbed 21 offensive rebounds, marking the third time in the last six games the Eagles had recorded 20 or more offensive rebounds. BC generated 23 second-chance points against the Wildcats ... BC registered a season-high 24 offensive rebounds at Providence on Feb. 24.
UNSELFISH: Boston College recorded 20 assists in yesterday's win, marking its fourth game this season with 20 or more assists ... Senior Kenny Harley handed out a team-high five assists, while classmate Jonathan Beerbohm recorded a season-high four assists.
DEFENSIVELY: Boston College made 14 steals in yesterday's win over Villanova, marking the 16th time this season the team had made 10 or more steals ... The 14 steals marked the Eagles' single-game best in a BIG EAST Tournament contest. The previous high was 13 (vs. Syracuse, March 4, 1982).
THE TURNOVER STORY: Boston College forced 19 Villanova turnovers in yesterday's victory. BC's tenacious defense has now forced 19 or more turnovers in more than half (15 of 28) of its games this season, including each of the last three games ... On the other side of the ball, BC committed just 11 turnovers of its own (below its season average of 13.7 per game) ... BC scored 28 points off Villanova turnovers, while Villanova scored just 12 points off BC miscues.
BACKCOURT COMPARISON: Boston College's backcourt tandem -- Troy Bell and Kenny Harley -- combined to score 44 points on 18-for-25 shooting from the field, including 6-for-10 from three-point range. On the defensive end, the duo -- along with their teammates limited Villanova' backcourt (Jermaine Medley and Derrick Snowden) to just 14 points on 5-for-17 shooting from the field.
BENCH SCORING: After outscoring Villanova's bench, 29-22, Boston College's reserves have now outscored the opposition's reserves in 18 of 28 games this season, including 13 of the last 15 ... BC's 29-point bench effort was its third highest of the 2000-01 season (33 vs. Morris Brown, 30 vs. Quinnipiac).
TROY BELL: In his BIG EAST Tournament debut yesterday, the sophomore guard registered 25 points, six rebounds and four steals. Bell shot 10-for-15 from the field. The game marked the third time in Bell's 54-game collegiate career that he'd made 10 or more field goals in one game. He made 11 field goals against both Vermont (in his second collegiate game -- on Nov. 23, 1999) and Marist (Nov. 28, 2000) ... Note: Bell missed last year's tournament after suffering a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee on Feb. 23, 2000 (against Pittsburgh).
RYAN SIDNEY: Freshman guard Ryan Sidney posted an impressive line of 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists in yesterday's victory over Villanova -- his BIG EAST Tournament debut.
SENIOR CLASS: Playing in their final BIG EAST Tournament, BC seniors Kenny Harley and Jonathan Beerbohm certainly made their presence known against Villanova. Harley netted 19 points, equaling his second-highest point total of the 2000-01 season. His five assists equaled his season high ... Beerbohm came off the bench to register 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
