BOSTON - Junior forward Jeff Giuliano scored two goals and sophomore goaltender Tim Kelleher made 20 saves to lead Boston College to a 5-1 HOCKEY EAST victory over Boston University before a crowd of 3,378 fans at Walter Brown Arena.
With the victory, Boston College concluded its regular-season schedule with a 26-8-2 record, including a 17-5-2 record in HOCKEY EAST action. Boston College, which captured the league's regular-season title with its win over Northeastern on March 1, hosts Merrimack in the quarterfinal round of the league playoffs on Friday, March 9.
Boston College trailed 1-0 after one period, before capitalizing on seven Boston University penalties in the second period to take a 2-1 lead after two periods. Giuliano evened the score with a 5x3 goal at 5:41, and sophomore Krys Kolanos netted another 5x3 goal just 32 seconds later to give BC the advantage.
Freshman Tony Voce tallied his eighth goal of the season at 1:35 of the third period to increase BC's margin to 3-1. Giuliano's second goal of the night -- at 5:50 -- extended the Eagles' lead, and senior Mike Lephart added a shorthanded goal at 7:02 to conclude the scoring.
Boston College outshot Boston University, 34-21. The host Terriers outshot BC, 12-6, in the first period, but the Eagles limited BU to just nine shots in the final two periods.
Kelleher, playing for the first time since Nov. 21, earned his third win of the season in the BC net.
Game Notes: BC finished 2-for-8 on the power play, while holding BU scoreless on seven power-play oppportunities ... Freshman Ben Eaves tallied two assists to bring his season point total to 33 (10 goals, 23 assists).
