Women's Rowing Races At the Knecht Cup

CAMDEN, N.J. - The Boston College women's rowing team traveled to Camden, N.J., today, for the second week in a row but this time to participate in the Knecht Cup Regatta hosted by Villanova. With strong performances by every Eagle boat, Boston College defeated all participating BIG EAST schools.
Competing on a 2,000-meter course, Boston College's first varsity crew finished second in their event. Rowing in the stroke seat was Mary Cooley, followed by Elizabeth Gregory, Alex Kazanovicz, Kristin Henny, Kristin Cary, Andrea Achimovic, Amelia Stephens, Cate Boron in the bow seat and Natalie Alderete as the coxswain . In their first heat the first varsity crew won, beating Connecticut, Loyola, Villanova, St. Joseph's (Pa.) and George Mason. The winner of each heat and the next three best times continued to the finals where Navy won with a time of 6:59.00. Boston College followed in second with a time of 7:01.07. Next was Delaware, Fairfield, Connecticut and Army.
Boston College's second varsity crew also enjoyed a successful day. In their first heat, Boston College took second behind Navy. Following BC was Delaware, Army, Skidmore and Massachusetts. In the finals, Navy won with a time of 7:16.25. Boston College followed in second with a time of 7:30.18. In the stroke seat for the Eagles was Lucia Romeo followed by Julie Todhunter, Katie Miller, Martha Tierny, Terri Cojohn, Claire Dennison, Kelly Griffin, Kim Dugan in the bow seat and Vicky Haley as the coxswain.
Improving their time once again this week was the varsity four crew, but they were unable to continue on to the final heat. Rowing in the stroke seat was Lauren Lehane. Following in the three seat was Kate McDonough, Tiana Morrison in the two seat and Kim Donohue in the bow seat. The coxswain was Bridgette Stewart. In their heat, George Mason won with a time of 8:15.30. The runner-up was Navy (8:23.71) then, Massachusetts (8:33.90), Boston College (8:40.14) in fourth and then Fordham.
The first novice eight crew, first won their heat to advance to the finals where they took second place with a time of 7:33.23. Winning the race was Lehigh (7:22.45). The second novice eight came in second place in their heat but did not advance to the finals. Winning the race, Villanova rowed a 8:29.65 and BC followed with a 8:27.01.
The next competition for the Boston College rowing team will be next week, Sat., Apr. 7, when they travel to Conventry Lake, in Conventry, Conn., to compete against Connecticut and Massachusetts.
