Track Competes At The Raleigh Relays

Raleigh, N.C - Selected members of the Boston College men and women's track and field teams competed at the prestigious Adidas Raleigh Relays, in Raleigh, N.C., on Fri., March 30 and Sat., March 31, 2001.
In the first day of competition, Gabe Verdaguer competed in the 100-meter dash, taking 95th place out of 107 competitors. In the 400-meter event, Mark Johnson ran a 50.23, good for 57th place out of 119. In the same event Verdaguer finished in 103rd with a time of 52.15. Finishing in 17th place in the 5,000-meter run was Justin Burdon with a time of 14.32.36. Following in 21st, John Dudley ran a 14:37.31. In the 5,000, Mark Fonnemann took and 53rd, Brian Mahoney finished 61st and Andrew Shaffer came in 97th, all out of 144 runners. In his second competition of the day, Normant took 15th out of 64, in the 400-meter hurdles. In the only field event for the Eagles, Tony Bierne threw 42.38-meters in the discus.
On the women's side in day one of competition, Danielle Jelley took 35th place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:27.17. In the 100-meter hurdles, Kate Sullivan finished in 61st with a time of 15.64. Christina Regan competed in the 400-meter hurdles, taking 31st place out of 73 with a time of 1:05.56. In field events for the Eagles, Sullivan finished 60th in the long jump with a jump of 4.84 meters. Throwing 36.08 meters, Megan Kearney finished 29th in the discus.
In relay action, on day one, Boston College's women's 4 x 1500 finished third with a time of 18:27.51. In the women's 1,600 sprint relay, the Eagles took eighth.
On the second day of the Adidas Raleigh Relays, Shawn Wallace took 31st place in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:58.22. In the same event Byron Gartell finished 63rd. Both out of 111 runners. The men's 4 x 800 relay took 11th place with a time of 7:45.71. Competing in the hammer throw, Bierne threw 41.89-meters good for 27th place.
In the women's second day of competition, Laura Smith finished seventh with a time 4:28.85 in the 1,500-meters. Jen Kramer followed in 12th place with a time of 4:34.88, in the same event. Taking 88th place out 113 runners, Lisa McIsaac also ran the 1,500-meters. Taking the highest place of any Eagle, Jen Donovan finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, running a 10:45.40. Throwing 34.27-meters, Kearney took 30th in the hammer throw.
The Boston College track and field team will next compete at the UConn Invitational on Fri., Apr 6 and Sat., Apr 7.
