PROVIDENCE, R.I.-- The Boston College women's defeated Brown on Saturday, Mar. 17, in Providence 4-3.
The Eagles were led by the efforts of senior captains Cynthia Tow and Kiren Fernando who secured points at the team's top two singles positions. Freshman Emily Hellberg also won her singles match over Maria Elena del Valle to give the Eagles a split in singles, winning three of a possible six points. Sophomores Anisha Fernando, Jessica Engel, and Brooke Moldenhauer fell against the Bears in singles play.
The deciding factor in the match proved to be the doubles point that the Eagles earned by winning two out of three doubles matches in the early going. The remarkable tandem of Tow and K. Fernando partnered to defeat Heather Young and Olivia Weng at the top doubles slot. The team of Hellberg and Moldenhauer combined to finish off Caroline Casey and del Valle at third doubles. Engel and A. Fernando fell in their doubles effort.
The women's tennis team will next see action on Sunday, March 25, against Seton Hall at 10:00 a.m. The women's tennis team is 7-5 in dual matches and 3-1 in BIG EAST play.
