Women's Lacrosse Falls In Opening Game To Harvard

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team opened their season today against cross-town rival Harvard (2-0), falling 14-11 at Bentley College in Waltham, Mass. In the loss, senior captain Emily Ryan (Franklin, Mass.) and junior pre-season All-America honorable mention Lauren Miller (Timonium, Md.) each collected five goals and one assist apiece.
The Eagles jumped on the board first when Ryan scored 5:40 into the game. Less than two minutes later Harvard's Alli Harper scored the first of her eight goals. Harper also assisted on two others to lead the Crimson.
With five goals in today's game Miller set a personal record in goals scored in one game. Last season she had a high of four goals in four different games. Ryan's high in goals scored in one game is six.
Collecting the Eagle's only other goal of the game was freshman Meggie O'Neill (Garden City, N.Y.), scoring her first goal of her collegiate career. Freshman Tara Morley (Hackettstown, N.J.) collected the only other assist of the game on Miller' s fifth goal of the game.
Scoring two goals apiece for Harvard were Lauren Corkery and Ashley Hamerling. Both Lizzy Frisbie and Leslie Moroz scored one goal. Assisting on one goal each were Corkery, Harmeling and Katie Shaughnessy.
The Eagles (0-1) will open BIG EAST play when they host Notre Dame on Sat. March 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The game will be the first for Boston College in the new BIG EAST lacrosse league.
