Women's Tennis Takes Fourth at USD Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif.-- The Boston College women's tennis team captured fourth place at the University of San Diego Classic this past weekend.
The Eagles delivered a victory over the University of Portland in the first round by a score of 4-3. Leading the way, senior captains Cynthia Tow and Kiren Fernando, junior Ruta Veitas and freshman Emily Hellberg picked up victories to secure four points and the overall match. The team of freshman Allison Ashley and sophomore Jessica Engel picked up the only doubles victory.
In the semifinanls the Eagles fell to a tough Texas A&M squad 5-1. Tow secured the only victory for the Eagles winnng at the top singles spot. In the Third place match Boston College faced the host school San Diego and were defeated 5-2. Tow and Ashley chipped in for singles victories as USD took the other four points in singles and the doubles point.
The women's tennis team will next see action on Saturday, March 17, at Brown at 10:00 a.m. The women's tennis team is 6-5 in dual matches and 3-1 in BIG EAST play.
