CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College junior forward Becky Gottstein (Albany, NY) was named BIG EAST women's basketball co-Player of the Week on Feb. 19 for her play in the team's two games last week. She shared the honor with Georgetown guard Katie Smrka-Duffy.
The team went 2-0 on the week in league play for the first time this season as Gottstein led the way for the Eagles, averaging 15.0 points and 7.0 rebounds. This is her first weekly honor of the 2000-01 season, but the tenth of her career. She was a six-time Rookie of the Week honoree during the 1998-99 season and a three-time Player of the Week selection last season before missing the last half of the regular season with a stress fracture.
Against Seton Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 14, Gottstein netted 14 points and grabbed six rebounds in the team's 70-58 victory. She played 36 minutes in the game and also added an assist, a block and a steal. On Sunday, she scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds while playing 42 minutes in an overtime victory over Virginia Tech, 65-59. She tied a season high with four assists as well.
Overall, Gottstein leads the team and is ranked fourth in the BIG EAST with a 15.5 points per game average. She also averages 8.3 rebounds per contest for third in the league and first on the team. She has played in 19 of the team's 24 games after missing five with injuries.
For her career, Gottstein has scored 910 points in two and a half years and is currently seventh all-time at Boston College in rebounding with 588.
Boston College will next face Georgetown on Wednesday, Feb. 21, in a 7 p.m. game at Conte Forum. The team is currently 10-14 overall.
