Men's And Women's Track Races At Valentine Classic

BOSTON, Mass-The Boston College men and women's track team competed at Boston University's Valentine's Classic on Feb. 10 in Boston. The event was a non-scoring meet.
Winning the 3000-meter event, Maggie Guiney ran a 9:30.38, setting a personal best. Following in fourth place in the same event, twin sister Cate Guniey ran a 9:42.84, setting a season best time. Julie Spoidoro finished the 3000-meter in 11th place. Racing in the mile run, Jen Donovan ran a 4:56.53, a personal best and a fifth place finish. Taking ninth place in the mile was Jen Kamer and Danielle Jelley followed in 11th. In the 500-meter run, Lauren Claudia took seventh place.
The women's team also won the distance medley relay with a time of 11:28.01, qualifying for nationals. In the 4x400 relay, Boston College finished seventh.
In the men's competition, Mark Johnson finished 22 out of 61in the 400-meter dash. Taking 13th place in the 800-meter run, Dan Fitgerald ran a 1:53.96. Following in the same event, Vernon Mickle finished in 14th. In the 3000-meter event Andrew Shaffer and Brian Mahoney took 15th and 34th, respectively.
The men's team finished in 12th place in the 4x400 with a time of 3:20.07.
The Boston College men and women's track and field teams will next complete at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships on Feb 23 and Feb. 24 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y.
