
Voce Leads Hockey Over Merrimack, 6-4

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore Tony Voce scored his second hat trick of the season and added one assist as Boston College defeated Merrimack, 6-4, at Kelley Rink before 4,044 fans. Sophomore J.D. Forrest recorded one goal and two assists, while classmate Ben Eaves collected three assists in the Eagles' best offensive showing of the season. Merrimack's Anthony Aquino and Ryan Cordeiro each scored two goals for the Warriors.
BC (4-4-1, 1-2-0) opened the scoring when freshman Ned Havern notched his first collegiate goal at 8:05 of the first period from junior Bill Cass and freshman Ryan Murphy. The Eagles then extended the lead to 2-0 at 11:18 of the first stanza when Forrest knocked in an Eaves pass. Voce also received an assist on the goal.
Merrimack (2-6-0, 0-5-0) got on the board at 3:47 of the second period when Aquino netted a power-play goal from Nick Parillo and Matt Foy, but the Eagles jumped ahead by two goals less than three minutes later when Voce scored his first goal of the night shorthanded from freshman Andrew Alberts.
Aquino recorded his second goal of the evening at 18:38 of the second period from Marco Rosa and Greg Lauze.
The Eagles opened the third period with a three-goal outburst each coming four minutes apart. Junior A.J. Walker scored a power-play goal from Ryan Shannon and Forrest at 4:04. Voce scored the Eagles' second power-play goal of the night when he tipped in a Forrest shot from the point at 8:06. Eaves was also credited with an assist on the goal. Voce completed the Eagles' scoring for the night when he scored his third goal - and second shorthanded tally - of the night at 12:21 from Eaves and freshman John Adams.
The Warriors' Cordeiro scored two late goals - a power-play score at 12:37 and an even-strength goal at 15:54 - to bring Merrimack within two goals and a 6-4 score.
The Eagles' Tim Kelleher made 12 saves for the win, while Joe Exter stopped 35 shots for Merrimack.
