CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College men's and women's cross country teams will run in NCAA District I Qualifier Saturday, November 10, at Franklin Park in Boston. The men's 10 kilometer race will begin at 2 p.m., which will be followed by the women's six kilometer race, one kilometer more than last year, at 2:45 p.m.
The men's team, which is coming off an eighth-place finish at the BIG EAST Championship back on October 26, looks to improve on last year's eighth-place finish at the NCAA District I Qualifier.
Senior Colin Wolfe, who placed 21st at the BIG EAST Championship, is the top returning runner from last year's squad that competed at the qualifier. Wolfe completed last year's race 34th out of 215 participants, finishing with a time of 32:19. Senior Nathan Buttrick is the only other Boston College runner returning that finished in the top 100. Buttrick finished the race with a time of 33:37, which was good enough for 94th place.
The No. 5 ranked women's cross country team looks to rebound from a second-place finish at the BIG EAST Championship two weeks ago. While the Eagles were not able to defend its BIG EAST crown, three Boston College runners had solid performances. Junior Catherine Guiney won the 2001 BIG EAST individual championship, while her sister Maggie took home third. Freshman Maria Cicero continued her strong season by finishing eighth at the event.
Maggie returns to this year's NCAA District I Qualifier as the defending champion. She ran last year's five kilometer race in 20:06. Catherine just finished inside the top 10 with a ninth-place performance, completing the race with a time of 20:58.
