CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College football team has formally accepted an invitation to play in the 2001 Music City Bowl on Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, in Nashville. The game will be played at 4:00 p.m. CST (5:00 p.m. EST) at Adelphia Coliseum, home of the National Football League's Tennessee Titans, and will be televised nationally by ESPN. The opponent for the game is still to be determined.
"Boston College is very honored to be playing in the 2001 Music City Bowl," says BC director of athletics Gene DeFilippo. "This is the third year in a row that our football team has played in a bowl game and I am very proud of the job that head coach Tom O'Brien and his staff have done."
The Eagles played in the 2000 Jeep Aloha Bowl, defeating Arizona State by a 31-17 score, and the 1999 Insight.com Bowl, dropping a 62-28 decision to Colorado.
The Music City Bowl appearance for the Eagles marks just the third time in school history that BC has advanced to a bowl game in three-straight seasons - joining 1982-84 seasons and the 1992-94 campaigns.
Boston College posted a 7-4 regular season record in 2001 and a 4-3 mark in BIG EAST play.
