NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Boston College women's ice hockey team defeated Yale University, 3-0 on Sunday afternoon. With the win, Boston College improves to 2-7-1 on the season. Yale falls to 3-3-1 overall. Senior Kelly McManus registered two assists and junior Thia Connolly scored two goals to lead the Eagles' attack. Freshman netminder Lisa Davis made 21 saves to register her second career shutout.
Coming off an emotional comeback draw against Princeton less than 24 hours earlier, it was only natural to question how much energy the Eagles would have left. That question was answered only 23 seconds into the first period, when senior forward Jaclyn Kryzak took a pass from McManus and fired it past Yale goaltender Nicolette Franck for the 1-0 lead. The Eagles managed only one goal through the first period, despite out shooting Yale 10-5.
The BC lead would double at 7:49 into the second frame, when Connolly found herself on the receiving end of a terrific pass from freshman Heidi Seidewand and beat Franck with a ferocious shot. Seidewand and fellow freshman Kathryn Chubrilo registered assists, the first of their respective careers. The second period ended with the Eagles enjoying a two-goal lead. Shots from the second stanza were 10-3 in favor of BC.
Yale came out firing in the final period, desperately trying to get back into the game, but Davis was solid in net, dispatching shot after shot. At the three minute mark, BC put the game beyond reach as Connolly again found the back of the net. McManus and senior defender Gen Richardson were credited with the assists. For McManus the goal was her team-leading fifth of the season.
For the match, Boston College out shot Yale 26-21. Davis registered 21 saves and Franck made 23. Both teams went 0/1 on the powerplay.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, December 1 at Niagara University. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
