BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Boston College volleyball team fell to Virginia Tech, 3-0 (30-21, 30-24, 30-23), Friday evening in a BIG EAST contest. With the loss, BC drops to 17-9 overall and 4-5 in the BIG EAST, while Virginia Tech improves to 9-14 overall and 5-5 in the BIG EAST. Freshman Dara Blandino turned in a solid performance for the Eagles, contributing 12 kills, six digs, and two total blocks.
For the second consecutive match, Boston College struggled in the early going, allowing the home team to cruise through games one and two without much of a challenge. Outstanding freshman Jessica Brizzolara missed her second consecutive match and Lauren Schwer filled in at the setter spot. Although Schwer filled in admirably, registering 28 assists and five digs, the Eagles seemed out-of-synch offensively.
Unlike the previous match (against Central Connecticut), where the BC roared back from a 2-0 deficit, the Hokies would not give the Eagles any chance for a comeback. Cheryl Stinson and Ana Lang led the way for Tech, with Stinson amassing 10 kills and 11 digs and Lang adding 12 kills and a match-high 14 digs.
Other notable performances for Boston College came from Brooke Shull, who produced six kills and eight digs.
The Eagles next take the court on Sunday, November 4, 2001 against at Georgetown. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
