Women's Volleyball Defeats Syracuse 3-1

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.- The Boston College women's volleyball team defeated Syracuse University 3-1 (24-30, 30-19, 30-24, 30-25) on Sunday afternoon at Power Gym. The Eagle victory improved their record to 12-5 overall and 2-2 in the BIG EAST. Syracuse fell to 8-8 (1-4 in BIG EAST). Freshman outside hitter Katie Andersen led the Eagles with 11 kills and a match-high 19 digs.
Boston College came into the match looking to bounce back from their disappointing home loss to Notre Dame on Saturday. In the beginning, however, it looked to be another tough day for BC. Syracuse came out firing and took game one 30-24, behind 19 team kills and a .325 hitting percentage.
Head coach Jackie Hadel's squad showed their mental strength fighting back in game two and slowly the momentum began to shift. Freshman setter Jessica Brizzolara paced the Eagles' offense (42 assists, four kills and 10 digs) as BC took game the next three games and the match. Junior outside hitter Rachel Bach registered 13 kills and added six digs to help the offense.
For the Orangewomen, Laura Koster led the way with 13 kills and 15 digs. Noreen Carroll also contributed six kills, 46 assists and 10 digs.
With the win, BC improved to 6-1 at home this season and 5-0 in games following a loss.
Boston College returns to action on Wednesday, October 10 against the New Hampshire at Power Gym. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
