PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior Bobby Thompson's penalty kick in the 71st minute lifted Boston College over Brown, 2-1, in a non-conference match-up on Wednesday night. Senior Chris Clear drew the kick when he tried to maneuver around a defender on the left side of the box, but was pulled down after heading toward the net. With the win, BC improved to 10-5-0 overall, while Brown fell to 4-7-2 on the season.
Sophomore Neil Krause put the Eagles on the board first in the 17th minute when he took a Cleary flick and put the ball past Bear keeper Christopher Gomez. BC keeper Danny Caruso also was credited with an assist when he sent a goal kick right to Cleary down the wing.
Brown evened the score in the 58th minute when Adrian Rapp picked up the ball in a scramble and fired it past Caruso after a broken corner kick.
Caruso was credited with three saves on the night, while two Brown keepers split the evening's duties. Gomez made two saves, while David Mahoney entered at the half and only faced the penalty kick.
Boston College will close the regular season on Saturday, November 3 when the team travels to Pittsburgh to face the Panthers in a 1 p.m. contest. The Eagles will then await word on their seed for the BIG EAST Tournament, which begins on Friday, November 9 with quarterfinal games at campus sites.
