Cambridge, MA- The Boston College women's volleyball team defeated Harvard University 3-0 (30-25, 30-23, 31-29) on Wednesday night at the Malkin Athletic Center in Cambridge, MA. The win moved the Eagles to 11-4 on the season. Harvard dropped to 6-4. Freshman outside hitter Katie Andersen led BC with a match-high 14 kills and 10 digs.
With the majority of the Big East schedule looming on the horizon, BC came into tonight's match looking to build momentum. Harvard looked to be as strong an opponent as the Eagles had faced all season. BC, however, jumped out to an early lead and used their depth to win almost every key point in the match.
Coach Hadel's team played one of their most inspired matches of the season and received contributions from several key players. In addition to Andersen, Junior outside hitter Rachel Bach continued her strong play, contributing 13 kills and three digs. Freshman setter Jessica Brizzolara showcased her versatility, scoring seven kills (for a .875 hitting percentage), 48 assists and six digs. Sophomore Laura Powers also got into the act, registering 11 kills (for a .529 hitting percentage) and 11 digs.
For the Crimson, Nicole Meunier and Kaego Ogbechie both contributed 12 kills and Mindy Jelling added 38 assists and a team-high 10 digs.
Boston College returns to action on Saturday, October 6 against the 22nd-ranked Irish of Notre Dame at Power Gym. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
