CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.- The Boston College women's volleyball team defeated Northeastern University by the score of 3-1 (25-30, 30-27, 30-22, 30-24), on Wednesday evening at Power Gym. The Eagles improve to 14-7 this season while the Huskies fall to 15-7. Freshman setter Jessica Brizzolara led BC with four kills, 50 assists, and a career-high 21 digs.
BC entered the match trying to avoid its first two-game losing streak in 2001, but it was Northeastern that would make the early charge. Game one saw the Huskies control play en route to a 30-25 win. Kristen Ursillo quarterbacked the Northeastern attack totaling 45 assists and also added four kills and 15 digs in the match.
In the intermission, head coach Jackie Hadel got the BC squad pointed in the right direction and the Eagles came out firing. Brizzolara's key defensive digs along with Laura Powers' strong hitting carried BC to a 30-27 win in game two. From there the momentum and the confidence quickly turned in favor of the home side. BC won games three and four by dictating the play and controlling Northeastern's strong hitters.
In addition to Brizzolara's outstanding play, other Eagles had notable performances. Powers led the BC attack with a match-high 19 kills and nine digs, Katie Andersen pitched in 12 kills and 15 digs, and Brooke Schull scored 14 kills along with eight digs.
For the Huskies, Erin Spangler registered 17 kills and Kristen Deatherage added 13 kills and eight digs.
With the win, Boston College improves to 7-0 this season in games following a loss.
Boston College returns to action on Wednesday, October 24 at Sacred Heart. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
