PITTSBURGH, Pa.- The Boston College women's volleyball team lost by the score of 3-0 (30-19, 30-18, 30-28) to the Pittsburgh Panthers on Sunday afternoon at Fitzgerald Field House. With the loss, BC drops to 13-7 overall and 3-3 in the BIG EAST. Pittsburgh improves to 6-9 overall and 3-4 in the BIG EAST. Junior outside hitter Rachel Bach led the Eagles with 12 kills.
BC came into the match looking for its first weekend sweep of conference opponents, but the Panthers would prove to be too strong. Games one and two saw the home side fire kill after kill past the usually stingy Eagle defense. Pittsburgh amassed an amazing 50 against only 20 errors for a three-game team hitting percentage of .233.
Head coach Jackie Hadel got her team fired up for the third game and it showed. Showing the offensive prowess that had fired past West Virginia earlier in the weekend, the Eagles jumped out to an early lead in game three. But defensive lapses and strong Pittsburgh hitting shifted the momentum and the Panthers took game three 30-28.
In addition to Bach's performance, freshman setter Jessica Brizzolara had a strong day with 30 assists and junior Lauren Schwer contributed six kills and 12 digs.
Boston College returns to action on Wednesday, October 17 against Northeastern University, in a match that was rescheduled from September 11, at Power Gym. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
