MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- The Boston College women's volleyball team defeated the West Virginia Mountaineers by the score of 3-1 (25-30, 30-23, 30-24, 30-18) on Friday October 12 at WVU Coliseum. Freshman Katie Andersen continued her terrific play, leading the Eagles 13 kills (.212 hitting percentage) and a match-high 20 digs. With the win, Boston College improves to 13-6 overall and 3-2 in the BIG EAST. West Virginia falls to 5-11 overall and 2-4 in conference.
Only two days after setting a school record for digs with 27 against UNH, Andersen (Oakdale, Calif.) once again seemed to be all over the court. Aided by strong setting from freshman Jessica Brizzolara (40 assists) and solid performances from junior Rachel Bach (nine kills) and sophomore Nancy Legan (eight kills), Andersen was able to pick her spots and did not have to "carry the load" on offense.
Boston College struggled to find their play early, as both sides came out tentatively in game one. West Virginia was the stronger of the two sides and took the first game due to strong hitting (12 team kills) and BC errors (-.023 team hitting percentage). But the Eagles would not lose their composure and took game two by way of their power game. The team totaled 17 kills against only five errors (.308 team hitting percentage) and began to show the confidence that they had displayed all season. The Eagles took games three and four comfortably as the Mountaineer attack was plagued by numerous missed chances and errors. West Virginia totaled only 17 kills over the final two games against 28 errors.
Boston College returns to action on Sunday, October 14 against at Pittsburgh. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
