CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Following a two-week layoff since taking first place at the Paddy Doyle/Iona College Meet of Champions, the Boston College women's cross country team is back in action at the NCAA Pre-Championship meet at Furman University in Greenville, S.C.
The No. 6 ranked Eagles will run at 11:20 a.m. in the Silver 6K. Because of the amount of teams competing in this year's meet, the NCAA decided to break the race up into two seperate events. The women's Purple 6K is slated to begin at 10:45 a.m.
The Silver 6K will feature 38 teams, 15 of which are ranked or receiving votes. Pac-10 power and No. 2 ranked Stanford will be the highest ranked team competing in the Boston College section. Other ranked teams in the Siliver 6K are No. 4 BYU, who won the National Championship at Furman back in 1997, No. 3 North Carolina State and No. 12 Colorado State. Featured in the Purple 6K is No. 1 ranked and defending national champion Colorado.
Junior sisters Cate and Maggie Guiney and freshman Maria Cicero will all be contenders for top honors at the meet. Cicero took first place at the Boston College Invitational, while Cate and Maggie took home first and second, respectively, at the Paddy Doyle/Iona College Meet of Champions.
