Women's Ice Hockey Falls to US National Team

LAKE PLACID, N.Y.- The US National Women's Hockey Team defeated Boston College, 11-0, in women's hockey exhibition action on Sunday, January 7 in the opening round of the Lake Placid Tournament in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Coming out strong, Brandy Fisher scored the first of her two goals at 5:30 in the first period. The goal, which would later become the game-winning goal, was assisted by Karyn Bye and Julie Chu. Also collecting two goals in the game was Katie King.
Former Boston College player and 1999 graduate Erin Magee assisted on two goals for the US National Team. The forward from Troy N.Y. sit atop of five categories in the Boston College record book. Magee ended her career with the most career points, collecting 198, with 116 goals- the most by a Boston College player- and 82 assists. She holds the two top spots for points scored in a season- 64 in 1995-96 and 55 in 1996-97- and all four are in the top ten. While at Boston College Magee collected more hat tricks than any other player, totaling 11 in her career, and collected the most in one season with five. To top off her accomplishments, Magee holds the record for most goals scored in one game with five.
In goal for the first two periods for Boston College was junior Amy Coletta, collecting 44 saves in 40 minutes of play. In the final 20 minutes, junior Sharon Van Tuyl collected 22 saves. In goal for the US National Team was Sarah Tueting collecting one save.
In the first game of the opening round of the Lake Placid Tournament, the seventh-ranked University of Wisconsin Badgers defeated the ninth-ranked Providence College Friars, 2-1.
The Eagles will return to action tonight, Monday, January 8, 2001 when they face Providence College in the consolation round of the Lake Placid Tournament. The game is schedule to begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Olympic Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y. The championship game between the Wisconsin and the US National Team is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. tonight.
