BOSTON, Mass. - Boston University scored the first three goals of the game, two on the power play, and then withstood a furious BC rally to defeat the second-ranked Boston College Eagles 3-2 in front of a sellout crowd of 3,806 at BU's Walter Brown Arena.
Boston University (7-9-1, 5-4-1) got first-period goals from John Sabo and Jack Baker, and a second-period score from Nick Gillis to take a 3-0 lead at 8:36 of the second frame.
Boston College would get on the board at 11:43 of the second period on a power-play goal from freshman forward Chuck Kobasew. Junior defenseman Brooks Orpik and senior forward Mike Lephart assisted on the score. BC trailed 3-1 at the second intermission.
The Eagles would cut the deficit in half at the 9:02 mark of the third period on a goal from sophomore forward Krys Kolanos. Kobasew and senior defenseman Rob Scuderi assisted on the goal.
BC's defense held BU without a shot attempt for the first 12:55 of the third period, and the Eagles outshot the Terriers 17-3 in the period, and 34-18 for the game.
Boston University goaltender Jason Tapp turned away 32 Eagle shots on the night for the victory. BC's Scott Clemmensen made 15 saves.
Boston College (13-5-1, 6-2-1) returns to action on Sunday, January 7, in the second game of the home and home series against Boston University. Game time at BC's Kelley Rink is 7 p.m.
